Mohali: In the
thirty-ninth league stage match of 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal
Challengers Bangalore defeated Kings XI Punjab by 1 run at Punjab Cricket
Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Monday.
Winning the toss, Kings
XI Punjab elected to field first. In the first innings, AB de Villiers was Royal
Challengers Bangalore’s highest scorer with 64 runs. He was followed by Lokesh
Rahul (42 runs), Sachin Baby (33 runs), Virat Kohli (20 runs) and Travis
Head (11 runs). Rest of the players couldn’t score in double-digits. KC Caripaa
took two wickets for Kings XI Punjab off 16 runs from three overs, whereas Sandeep
Sharma took two wickets for Gujarat Lions off 49 runs from four overs. Royal
Challengers Bangalore scored a total of 175 runs off six wickets at the end of
the innings.
In the second innings, Murali
Vijay was Kings XI Punjab’s highest scorer with 89 runs. He was followed by Marcus
Stoinis (34 runs), Hashim Amla (21 runs) and Wriddhiman Prasanta Saha (16
runs). Stoinis remained not out. Shane Watson was Kings XI Punjab’s best bowler
of the night after he took a wicket by giving 22 runs in four overs. Royal
Challengers Bangalore won in a nail-biting moment when Kings XI Punjab scored
174 runs off four wickets at the end of 20 overs.
This is the second time
this season that the winner has been decided by one run, the first instance
being Gujarat Lions defeating Delhi Daredevils by one run on April 27.
Watson was adjudged
‘Player Of The Match’.
Royal Challengers
Bangalore will next face reigning champion Mumbai Indians on May 11, while
Kings XI Punjab will take on the same on April 13.

Bangalore now stands at eight points, while Kings XI Punjab has six points.
Rising Pune Supergiants
will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad today in Visakhapatnam.
