Fire Breaks Out At Charu Market, No Casualties Reported

Kolkata: A massive fire broke out in a rubber factory at the southern fringe of the city on Thursday afternoon. The fire was first noticed around 5 pm at the afternoon at the Sultan Alam Road in the Charu Market area of Tollygunge.


According to reports, as many as 12 fire tenders were pressed at service to douse the fire. Fire department officials working to take control of the flames has later asserted that the reason is not yet known. However presence of rubber, plastic and adhesive in large amounts is helping the fire to burn. “The cause of the fire is not yet known, but large amount of plastic substances and adhesive stacked inside the factory is helping the blaze,” an official said.

The fire department and police is concerned of the population and the adjoining Charu market that is a high traffic area. Police has asserted that the fire department is trying to douse the fire so that it could not spread to the neighboring areas, buildings and houses.  Police was deployed immediately into the area to maintain law and order. Life or property losses are not yet confirmed.
