New Delhi: In a recent development of the Olympics
quota row between wrestler Sushil Kumar and Narshing Yadav, Delhi High Court has
directed Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to show ‘sportsman spirit’ and had
directed to give the two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar a hearing. Following the direction, the national
federation has called for a meeting in the presence of the WFI President, Vice
president and chief coach, on Wednesday.
The court of justice Manmohan on
Tuesday has asserted to consider Kumar’s objections and take a note that if he
can be allowed to participate in the training camp that is going on to train
the athletes who have won the Olympics quota for Rio Olympics 2016. “The court
will only interfere if there is something malafide or perverse. I don’t see any
perversity in the selection of the gentleman who has won the berth. Without him
competing on that day you wouldn’t have a berth,” Justice Manmohan has said.
The WFI, which has noted that 2015 World
Championship Bronze medalist Narsingh Yadav would represent the country in the
74 kg weight category, has also said that Yadav is in a better ‘shape’ than
Kumar. An official from the organization also has confirmed that Kumar has been
avoiding all the training and trial sessions while Yadav attended in all selection
trial and elite events in the last two years and ‘has done well.’
