Bangalore:
On Tuesday, in the first qualifier match, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
defeated Gujarat Lions by four wickets at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore to
qualify for the finals for the ninth season of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Royal
Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first. In the first
innings, Dwayne Smith was Gujarat Lion’s highest scorer with 73 runs. He was
followed by Dinesh Karthik (26 runs), Eklavya Dwivedi (19 runs) and Dhawal
Kulkarni (10 runs). Rest of the players could score only in single digits.
Shane Watson took four wickets for Royal Challengers Bangalore off 29 runs from
four overs. At the end of 20 overs, Gujarat Lions scored 158 runs all out.
In
the second innings, AB de Villiers was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s highest
scorer with 79 runs. He was followed by Iqbal Abdulla who scored 33 runs and
Stuart Binny, who scored 21 runs. Rest others scored in single digits. Dhawal
Kulkarni was Gujarat Lion’s best bowler was he took four wickets off 14 runs
from four overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 159 runs off six wickets
from four overs to claim victory.

Royal
Chlalengers Bangalore will next play in the finals on May 29 in Bangalore.
Gujarat
Lions will now take part in the second qualifier match where they will face off
the winner of the eliminator match to be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and
Kolkata Knight Riders today in New Delhi.
Since
Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions were the top two scorers to
qualify for the play-off stage, therefore they played directly into qualifiers.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers were the bottom two scorers to qualify for
the play-off stage, therefore they have to go through an eliminator match
today, where the loser is eliminated and the winner faces the loser of the
first qualifier match (in this case, Gujarat Lions), to qualify for the finals.
