Mumbai: Twitter found a
new celebrity to body shame this time. On Friday, actor Fardeen Khan started
trending on social media with Twitterati taking a dig at his recent weight gain
story.
Recently, the
42-year-old actor shared a picture on Twitter and people lost their senses.
They started trolling him from comparing him Bapi Leheri to Anant Ambani,
Twitter is flooded with such memes.
Fardeen’s weight gain
has made him a butt of jokes on social media and netizens can’t get enough of
his jokes.
The very fact that an
actor putting on weight is a source of humour or validation for us is a very
troubling trend. This can be tied to the fact that a large part of content
around celebrities revolves around their personal life. Who kissed whom? Who
broke up with whom over Whatsapp? Look look, this once famous ‘chocolate boy’
is now gaining weight! Rejoice!
The hypocrisy with
which how the matter is being dealt with the physical scrutiny of a celebrity
is disturbing. So when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is criticized for her weight at
Cannes, it becomes a hot topic of discussion but when it comes to Fardeen Khan,
it becomes a joke?
Body-shaming is
intolerable irrespective of age, gender, sexuality, race, religion, or any
other matter whatsoever. The image of the perfect body screams patriarchy’s
actions of keeping everyone under its control and it’s pre-set image and
whenever someone does anything unconventional, they are isolated or mocked.
Fardeen is the son of
late veteran actor Feroz Khan. Fardeen has starred in films like No Entry, All The Best, Khushi, Pyare Mohan, Jungle, Janasheen,
Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Bhoot, Dev, Kitne Door Kitne Paas, Acid Factory, among others. He was last
seen in 2010 film Dulha Mil Gaya.
