Kolkata: Two passengers carrying gold bars worth
almost Rs. 21 lakh were seized at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra International
Airport on Sunday. The passengers- Manoj Gupta and Nagendra Tiwari- arrived at Kolkata
from Bangkok by TG 313 flight of Thai Airways late at the day.
Reports are that the suspicion arose during the
checking process as both of the passengers were found hiding gold bars under
their socks. The airport officials has confirmed the news saying that gold bars
weighing around 560 gm, valued at over Rs.17.09 lakh, were recovered from
one person and 152 gm yellow metal worth Rs. 4.65 lakh was seized
from the other.
According to the airport transportation rules for
gold, if passengers were found carrying illegal gold worth around Rs. 20 Lakh, the
airport authority seizes the gold only and frees the passenger. Yesterday it
was the same with Gupta and Tiwari.
Both of the passengers were interrogated and but was
not held in police custody. The gold
with them was seized by the NSCB international airport officials.
