Kolkata: The Mamata
Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress after taking an oath on Friday has decided to
make a 10 percent hike in the salaries of the State government employees.
Reports are that the initiative by the West Bengal government was said as an
‘attempt to mollify’ the State government employees who are already in a
miserable mode following a 50 percent gap of dearness allowance with the
central government employees.
“We
have decided to give some relief to the state government employees. It might be
a small one for the employees but it would cost the state exchequer about Rs
3,000 crore,” said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in
her first press conference at Nabanna
on Friday. West Bengal have around 8 lakh state employees.
According to
sources, finance Minister Amit Mitra, who is in the chair for the second time,
announced to give 10 percent ‘of the band pay as additional payment’ to the
employees, starting from July 1 and to be continued each month after that.
Mitra also assured about pay commission which was subjected to implement in
September 2015.
