Once In a Generation Refugee Crisis Should Be Taken Care Of: Angelina Jolie

In a recent interview Angelina Jolie has shown concern over the ‘once-in-a-generation’ migration crisis that will result into a risk and greater instability that could ‘drive more refugees to Europe.’


“I believe this is again that once-in-a-generation moment when nations have to pull together,” said the Challenging actress. Jolie is United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Special Envoy and ‘witnessed the effects of a humanitarian crisis’ when she was shooting Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in the year of 2001. Reports are that to learn more about the refugee crisis, Angelina started visiting refugee camps around the world after that.


“How we respond will determine whether we create a more stable world, or face decades of far greater instability,” the actress noted. Pointing out to the sporadic initiatives to address refugee crisis, she also asserted that these efforts are not suffice to address the underlying causes of the crisis. She also added that these scattered incidents of help might result into more ‘conflict and displacement.’
According to the UN refugee agency, the number of people ‘forcibly displaced worldwide’ was likely to have ‘far surpassed’ a record 60 million in 2015. The number includes 20 million refugees, driven by the Syrian war and other drawn-out conflicts.



The dignified and talented actress, who compared the refugee crisis as a fire on the neighbor’s house, said that closing European borders to the refugees and migrants is not a solution. Significantly, Europe is struggling with refugee crisis since the World War II as Middle East, South Asia and African populace took a shelter there. “Countries are competing to be the toughest, in the hope of protecting themselves whatever the cost and despite their international responsibilities,” said the disappointed UN Ambassador.
