London: She is an Academy Award winning actress is
known to everybody. She is also a United Nations Ambassador is a part known to
a lesser section of the population. In a recent interview Angelina Jolie has
shown concern over the ‘once-in-a-generation’ migration crisis that will result
into a risk and greater instability that could ‘drive more refugees to Europe.’
“I believe this is again that once-in-a-generation
moment when nations have to pull together,” said the Challenging actress. Jolie is United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees (UNHCR) Special Envoy and ‘witnessed the effects of a humanitarian
crisis’ when she was shooting Lara Croft:
Tomb Raider in the year of 2001. Reports are that to learn more about the
refugee crisis, Angelina started visiting refugee camps around the world after
that.
“How we respond will determine whether we create a
more stable world, or face decades of far greater instability,” the actress
noted. Pointing out to the sporadic initiatives to address refugee crisis, she
also asserted that these efforts are not suffice to address the underlying
causes of the crisis. She also added that these scattered incidents of help
might result into more ‘conflict and displacement.’
According to the UN refugee agency, the number of
people ‘forcibly displaced worldwide’ was likely to have ‘far surpassed’ a
record 60 million in 2015. The number includes 20 million refugees, driven by
the Syrian war and other drawn-out conflicts.
The dignified and talented actress, who compared the
refugee crisis as a fire on the neighbor’s house, said that closing European
borders to the refugees and migrants is not a solution. Significantly, Europe
is struggling with refugee crisis since the World War II as Middle East, South
Asia and African populace took a shelter there. “Countries are competing to be
the toughest, in the hope of protecting themselves whatever the cost and
despite their international responsibilities,” said the disappointed UN
Ambassador.
