Roopa Ganguly Attacked In Bengal Post-Poll Violence

Diamond Harbour: BJP leader Roopa Ganguly was on Sunday heckled and her car damaged allegedly in an attack by TMC supporters near Diamond Harbour in South-24 Parganas district. The incident happened at Ishwaripur village in Kakdwip when she was returning to Kolkata after visiting a woman party worker, who was assaulted allegedly by TMC workers.
The woman and her family members were allegedly attacked by TMC cadres late Saturday. Two of them, including the woman, had to be hospitalized after the attack. After visiting her at the hospital, Ganguly gave two members of her family a lift in her car to their residence.
When the car neared their house, one TMC supporter allegedly involved in the attack the day before was spotted in the area. Sources said that Ganguly, along with her associates, tried to catch him. The accused, however, managed to flee. While escaping, he reportedly raised an alarm, and other locals joined him. Following this, while Roopa swas heckled and slapped, stones were thrown on her car
The police intervened and restrained the locals. Roopa, who was “not injured”, was taken to a local hospital, from where she was released following a check-up, said police. “No one has been arrested in connection with the incident. A police picket has been set up in the area to avoid any untoward incident,” an officer said.
When contacted, Ganguly said: “We were visiting a victim of molestation. While returning, her family members recognized one of the culprits. We tried to catch him but were attacked by Trinamool supporters.”
