Kolkata: In
the forty-eighth League match of the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal
Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets at Eden
Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on Monday.
Royal
Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first. In the first
innings, Gautam Gambhir was Kolkata Knight Riders’ highest scorer with 51 runs.
He was followed by Manish Pandey (50 runs), Andre Russell (39 runs) and Shakib
Al Hasan (18 runs). Russell and Hasan remained not out. Sreenath Aravind was Royal
Challengers Bangalore’s best bowler of the night, as he took two wickets off 41
runs from four overs. At the end of the innings, Kolkata Knight Riders scored
183 runs off five wickets.
In
the second innings, Virat Kohli scored 75 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore,
thereby becoming its highest scorer. He was followed by AB de Villiers (59
runs) and Chris Gayle (49 runs). Kohli and Villiers remained not out. Sunil
Narine took the sole wicket for Kolkata Knight Riders off 34 runs from four
overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore clinched victory when it scored 186 runs off
one wicket in 18.4 overs.
Kohli
was named ‘Player of The Match’.
Royal
Challengers Bangalore now stands at 12 points, while Kolkata Knight Riders stands
at 14 points.
Royal
Challengers Bangalore will now take on Kings XI Punjub on May 18 in Bangalore,
while Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Gujarat Lions on May 19 in Kanpur.
