8 Children Died At Ajmer Hospital, Medical Negligence Allegation Mount

Ajmer: A total of eight infants have died since Saturday morning at the neonatal ward of the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, Ajmer. Prof. B.S.Karnawat, Head of the Pediatrics Department at JLN hospital said on Monday that among the eight, five children have died between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Three more death on Monday has increased the number of death.

Prof. Karnawat however has claimed that there was no medical negligence from the hospital’s part and that the children were brought to hospital in a critical state. “These are all incidental deaths. They are all because of different diseases. There are doctors who are regularly available in the hospital. There has been no negligence,” he added. Another senior doctor has asserted that all eight children were suffering septicaemia, premature birth and respiratory problems.

Following the death of the eight infants, District Magistrate has ordered a probe and aid medicine used to heal the children to sent for tests.  District Collector Gaurav Goyal also has instructed to present the full list of doctors of the JLN Hospital, ‘to ensure 24-hour availability of doctors,’ said reports.
Rajasthan Congress Chief Sachin Pilot has claimed that death of all the newborns was subjected to negligence from the hospital authority: “The newborns were not treated properly due to absence of senior doctors. They died due to carelessness of doctors,” Pilot said. He also blamed the Rajasthan Government and said that the govt. is ‘trying to cover up’ the incident.
