Kolkata: Areas in Kolkata and Bidhannagar will be
under strict vigilance tomorrow as the date is scheduled for releasing the much
awaited Assembly poll results. Reports are that on May 19, only the authorized
personnel are allowed to roam across all constituencies and in all 10 polls
counting centers located at the ‘pockets of Kolkata and Bidhannagar.’
According to reports, with the trepidations of post
poll violence across the city, the police headquarters at Lalbazar ‘have come
out with a slew of restrictions to prevent unlawful assembly in and around
the counting centers’, that is located amid
residential and commercial locations.’ The vote counting centers are-
Bidhannagar College, Netaji Indoor Stadium, Sakhawat Memorial Govt. Girls’ High
School, St. Thomas Boys School, David Gare Training College, Ballygunge Govt.
High School, Gitanjali Stadium, Jnan Chanddra Ghosh Polytechnic College,
Hastings House and Bratachari Vidyasharam.
Also, Section 144CrPc has been secured around the
100 meters of all counting centers to prohibit any ‘unauthorized entry would be
declared unlawful and attract prosecution.’ The police might also employ added
security and an extension of Section 144 to prevent any law and order problem. Restrictions
on traffic will also be there on May 19, as informed by the city Traffic
Department. A senior traffic officer also has asserted: “In the case of
Bratachari Vidyasram, which is located on Diamond Harbour Road, we have little
option but to keep traffic running. But for Netaji Indoor Stadium, there would
be restrictions on traffic through Auckland Road.”
Schools and colleges have already gone into summer
vacation but Calcutta University, Presidency University and Jadavpur University
will remain open on the day. All shops, vehicular movement and commercial
establishments will remain closed on Thursday.
