New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Tuesday has issued a
notice to Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) regarding issuing a hearing to
two-time Olympic winner Sushil Kumar who has sought a trial to decide the right
candidate for Rio Olympics in the men’s 74 kg freestyle category.
Justice
Manmohan, who was supervising Kumar’s petition for trial, said: “This court directs that in the meantime,
the petitioner (Sushil) shall be given a hearing by the President, Vice
President, Secretary and coach of respondent number 4 (WFI).” Also, the court
has instructed to file affidavits as a response from the Sports Ministry and
WFI. Next hearing will be on May 27.
The double Olympic winner, Sushil, has moved to
court after he found his name was not in the final list of players representing
India in the Rio Olympic, starting this September. According to reports, Sushil
has been ‘insisting’ to send the best Indian representative to the quadrennial
extravaganza. While Narsingh Pancham Yadav has asserted that he have performed
better in the 74 kg freestyle category and that he is the right candidate to
represent India in Rio.
