Employees at China Sleeping at Work

Office workers sleeping in their duty hours has long been a normal sight in China. With information technology and other technical industries in China, workers in these particular sectors have plenty of time for ‘downtime’.

Though the main reason behind these weird actions by the industrial bosses is a result of inefficiency and a surplus of cheap labor, the companies operating in Chinese market say that they have issued leisure time for the workers to execute more creative plans from them. “For technology, it's more of a brain activity. Workers need time to find inspiration. Our rest area isn't just for sleeping at night, the midday is also OK,” said a 40-year-old Chinese worker. Even employees were found sleeping in any and every flat surface in their office.
However, a completely different picture is also there in China, in the technology sector. Workers in this particular sector ‘is burning the midnight oil to meet deadlines,’ said reports. “The pace of Chinese internet company growth is extremely fast. I've been to the U.S. and the competitive environment there isn’t as intense as in China,” noted Cui Meng, general manager and co-founder of start-up data company Goopal.

In several companies in being and other major cities in China, workers also even forced to stay at their office to save time for their work. Many programmers works until 3 to 4 am in the morning, leaving little time to socialize. “I don't have that many opportunities or much time to find a girlfriend,” says a 28-year-old young worker from Renren Credit Management.
