Kolkata: Students from the districts
once again outperformed Kolkata students in the Madhyamik Examination whose
result was declared by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) on
Tuesday. This year the board recorded a total pass percentage of 82.74, which
is a marginal rise from 82.66 per cent last year.
The
examination started on February 1and ended on February 10. Boys outperformed
girls, despite a marked rise in the number of girls appearing for the
examination. This year 11,44,097 students - including those in the regular,
compartmental and other categories appeared for the examination.
East
Midnapore topped the chart in terms of pass percentage with 93.10 per cent, followed
by Kolkata with 90.62, South 24-Parganas with 89.46, North 24-Parganas 88.35,
West Midnapore 85.81, Hooghly 85.17, Howrah 84.51 and Malda 82.76. This year 9,27,453
students cleared the examination.
A
total of 5,19,260 boys appeared for the examination, of whom 4,42,009 cleared
the examination, for a pass percentage of 86.34. On the other hand, 6,24,112
girls appeared in the examination, of whom 4,85,444 passed Rs a pass percentage
of 79.62. Of the total number of students who appeared for the examination,
54.59 per cent were girls, which is 9.18 per cent more than the boys. However,
board officials expressed their satisfaction at the significant rise in the
number of girl candidates in the state.
Meanwhile,
54,584 students scored maximum grade, that is AA, in life science; 31,989
students scored AA in physical science, 27,348 in mathematics,12,803 in
geography, 10,718 students in first language.Only 6134 students scored AA in
second language.
In
2017 the Madhyamik Examination will start on 22 February and end on 3 March.
There
has been a significant increase in number of girls compared to male candidates
who appeared in the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) class 10
exams this year, a board official said on Tuesday.
