Kolkata: A 30-year-old man Trinamool Congress
(TMC) worker was found dead inside a goods vehicle in the Maniktala area of the
city on Wednesday.
The
youth has been identified as Kanhaia Sahoo. Local people of Muraripukur
discovered his body in a sitting-position on the front seat of the car at
around 11am.
A senior officer of police said: “The person was hit
by a bullet on the left side of his chest. We have also recovered a pistol from
near his feet inside the car. The bullet was fired from a very close range. It
has pierced the person's chest and gone out through his back.”
The postmortem report revealed that Sahoo died
between 3.30am and 4am. Primary investigation revealed that Sahoo was busy
painting the walls for TMC for the upcoming Assembly polls till 1.30am. The senior officer also said: “We have spoken
to those who were with him in the wall painting and found that Sahoo had
received a call on his mobile and had a very agitating conversation. We're
going through the call list of his phone.”
The victim used to drive the goods vehicle from
which the body was found, the officer said adding that police were also speaking
to the goods carriage owner in connection with the incident.
This news comes in line with the recent controversy
that the party is already facing. TMC on Friday ruled out any probe into the Narada News sting video, saying it
"does not believe it" even as the leader of the opposition Surjya
Kanta Mishra wondered what was stopping Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from
examining the footage.
