New Delhi: A police
complaint against actor Amitabh Bachchan was filed on Monday accusing him of
taking more time than mandated while singing the national anthem during the
Twenty20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan at Eden Garden stadium in
Kolkata on March 19.
The complaint was
lodged at the New Ashok Nagar police station in east Delhi by filmmaker Ullhas
PR. In his complaint, he said that the 73-year-old actor took 1 minute 22
seconds to sing the national anthem before the match on Saturday, violating
Union Ministry guidelines restricting 52 seconds for the same. He also said
that Bachchan used the word "Sindhu" in place of "Sindh"
while singing the anthem.
A senior police officer
said: "We have received the complaint and are looking into it.” “However,
we have so far not come across any law, order or guideline which makes it an
offence to stretch the timing,” he further added.
Bachchan sang the
National Anthem before the match began on Saturday. Earlier there were reports
that the actor had charged Rs 4 crore for his appearance fee during the match.
However, top Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official cleared the air,
confirming that Bachchan didn’t charge a single penny.
On November 25 last year,
Ullhas had filed a police complaint against actor-producer Aamir Khan for his
remarks on intolerance in the country. He lodged the complaint following the
release of his film PK, in which he
referred to policemen in a derogatory manner.
