Kalimpong: The
much-anticipated sequel Kahaani 2 has
finally gone on the floors with Vidya Balan beginning the shooting in Kalimpong,
West Bengal.
The 2012 thriller film Kahaani, directed by Sujoy Ghosh was
about ‘Vidya Bagchi’, played by Vidya Balan, a pregnant woman searching for her
missing husband. It turned out to be a super hit and raked Rs 104 crore at the
box-office. It was also critically appreciated and won numerous awards,
including five Filmfare awards, five Screen awards and three National Film
awards. The film also inspired two remakes – one in Tamil and the other in
Telugu, with an English remake on the pipeline.
The sequel stars Vidya
Balan reprising her role, with Arjun Rampal and Jugal Hansraj being the new
additions to the cast. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who played a cop in the first film,
won't feature in Kahaani 2.
The sequel came a long
way to see daylight. In March 2012, Ghosh announced that he intended to
develop Kahaani into a
series. He was inspired by Feluda
detective series and wanted to continue the stories of ‘Vidya Bagchi’ on
similar lines. The shooting of Kahaani
2 was scheduled to begin in 2013, but in July 2013 differences arose
between Ghosh and other co-producers. In February 2014, Vidya announced that
the sequel was not happening due to these differences.
Ghosh took it to
Twitter and posted a picture of a clap board which confirmed the shoot. The
director captioned it, “in gratitude for the love you gave to our first film. We
will work even harder to live up to your expectations.”
