Los Angeles: Miley
Cyrus and Alicia Keys were announced on Friday as the new coaches for season 11
of The Voice, replacing Pharrell
Williams and Gwen Stefani.
Adam Levine and Blake
Shelton have renewed their deals as coaches, according to multiple individuals
with knowledge of the show. Williams will be in the mix as NBC figures out its
coaching panel beyond next season.
Season 11 will witness
for the first time more than one female coach fighting it out to be season’s
champion mentor. All previous seasons have traditionally featured three male
coaches and one female coach per season.
Currently, Cyrus has been
serving as a key advisor on the show’s Season ten. Keys, a 15-time
Grammy winner, served as an advisor on Season seven. In previous seasons, singers
Taylor Swift and Rihanna have coached hopefuls but did not go on to judge the
reality show. It’s been a busy year for Cyrus, who released a new album in
August and is planning her wedding to actor beau Liam Hemsworth. Meanwhile,
Keys is working on her sixth studio album to be released this year.
Levine and Shelton
have spent all ten seasons together in those oversized “Voice” chairs.
Original judges Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green have judged six and four
seasons respectively, with Aguilera being one of the judges for the current
season ten. Usher and Shakira have judged season four and six together, while
Stefani and Williams have judged two and four seasons respectively.
