‘Cow Smuggling’ Case : Two Cops Suspended For Trying To Bribe Rahul Sinha

Kolkata: Two cops of the Special Branch (SB) of the Kolkata police were suspended on Monday for allegedly trying to bribe Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Secretary Rahul Sinha.
The two police officers have been identified to be Subhasis Roychowdhury, Assistant Sub-Inspector, and Constable Aminur Rahman. Sinha claimed that both of them offered him bribe seeking his help in cow smuggling to Bangladesh
Speaking about the incident, Sinha said that Chowdhury came to Sinha’s office along with Rahman. “Chowdhury said Rahman was an unemployed youth and wanted some help in smuggling cows across the Bangladesh border. He offered to reward me handsomely if I helped. I immediately held him by the collar and slapped him across his face. Then I handed them over to the police,” he said. He added that the duo did not reveal their identity until the police were called from the local station.
Sinha has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of trying to organize a sting operation on the BJP ahead of the Assembly polls “to counter the Narada case.” He said: “Yesterday, during the election campaign at Kharagpur which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I had heavily criticized the TMC government because of the Narada incident and three hours after that, I believe this conspiracy was hatched.”
Police, however, denied Sinha’s allegation that the two personnel tried to “conduct a sting operation” on him. Police also said that no camera or cash was seized from them.
