Nagpur: In a
remarkable decision taken by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday, the non-governmental
organization announced on Sunday that the khaki shorts will be replaced with
brown trousers in keeping with the "changing times".
The general secretary of RSS, Bhaiyyaji Joshi said:
"In place of khaki half pants, we've decided to make brown full pants part
of our uniform. In normal course, too, full pants are the trend and we accept
that.” Although no particular reason was given on the change of color, Joshi
while speaking on the issue, said: "We had to decide on one color. Brown
looks good and is available in all places.
The move, supposedly aimed at giving RSS an image
makeover and making it more attractive to students and young professionals, was
on expected lines as Sangh office-bearers had indicated the issue at the Akhil
Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) held at Nagaur in Rajasthan.
This
is not the first time that RSS has made changes in its official uniform. The
issue of giving up the balloon khaki shorts, which were considered old-fashioned
by many, was last taken up at the ABPS in 2010. When no decision could be arrived
at, RSS had decided not to take up the issue till 2016.
Stressing on the importance of adapting, Joshi said: “We are not rigid people but keep changing with time. No grassroots organization can make progress without that.” Joshi mentioned that the change in uniform will not create any altercation in the identity of the organization by saying that RSS is recognized for many other characteristics and not just because of khaki knickers.
