Kolkata: Pakistan
defeated World T20 defending
champions Sri Lanka by 15 runs in a warm up match on Monday at Eden
Gardens.
Pakistan’s Mohammad
Hafeez struck an unbeaten 70 from 49 balls to help Pakistan post 157/5 before
they restricted Sri Lanka for 142/9. On the other hand, another player from the
victorious team, Mohammed Sami injured his toe in the final minutes of their
first training session on Sunday. According to a team official, Sami was hit on
the left toe by a delivery of a net bowler. Though he was given quick medical
attention, till Monday night there was serious doubt whether he would take part
in Pakistan’s opening clash against Bangladesh on Wednesday.
Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi disappointed by being out first
ball. The star of the day was left-arm spinner Imad Wasim, who took 4/25. In
the bowling, all eyes were on Mohammad Amir who started with the new ball and
was tidy giving away just two runs. With Amir having tied up the other end, Mohammad
Irfan produced a superb rising bouncer first ball to get rid of Tillakaratne Dilshan
to give them a perfect start. Dinesh Chandimal broke the shackles hitting Irfan
to two boundaries.
But introduction of Imad Wasim in the sixth over gave them the
breakthrough when he dismissed Chandimal for 30.Chandimal was caught at
midwicket trying to hit across the line.
Sri Lanka will next face Afghanistan on March 17 when the Super Ten
