Peshawar: Nearly
fifteen people were killed when a bomb exploded inside a bus on Wednesday in
the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar.
Police superintendant
Kashif Zulfiqar said that more than 30 people have been wounded. The bus
was bringing dozens of government employees to work from Mardan when the
bomb went off near Sunehri Masjid in Peshawar. At the time of the explosion,
there were about 40 people inside the bus. The improvised explosive device was
planted under a seat in the bus. About eight kg of explosives were used in
blast. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital. Most of the injured
have been stated to be critical. Eight were admitted to ICU. The security
forces and police cordoned off the entire area and started a search operation.
Eyewitness Usama Hussein said:
“The blast was really loud ... the windows of the buildings nearby were
shattered.” “The roof of the bus was completely blown off by the bomb, I saw
many dead bodies and severely injured people being rushed to the hospital,” she
further added.
The attack comes a week
after a suicide bomber killed 13 people on March 8 after blowing himself up
outside a court in Charsadda, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, about
30km from Peshawar. Although, no one has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s
attack, but authorities are suspecting Pakistani Taliban and their allied
militants, who have been waging a war on the state for more than a decade,
killing tens of thousands of people.
