In the twenty-ninth League match of the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL),
reigning champion Mumbai Indians defeated Rising Pune Supergiants by eight
wickets at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Sunday.
Mumbai
Indians won the toss and elected to field first. In the first innings, Saurabh
Tiwary was Rising Pune Supergiants’ highest scorer with 57 runs. He was
followed by Steven Smith (45 runs), MS Dhoni (24 runs) and Thisara Perera (12
rums). Perera remained not out. Jasprit Bumrah was Mumbai Indians’ best bowler
of the night, as he took three wickets off 29 runs from four overs. Harbhajan
Singh and Mitchell McClenaghan also took one wicket from four overs each by
giving 25 and 27 runs respectively. At the end of the innings, Rising Pune
Supergiants scored 159 runs off five wickets.
In
the second innings, Rohit Sharma scored 85 runs for Mumbai Indians, thereby
becoming its highest scorer. He was followed by Jos Buttler (27 runs), Ambati
Rayudu (22 runs) and Parthiv Patel (21 runs). Sharma and Buttler remained not
out. Ravichandran Ashwin took one wicket for Rising Pune Supergiants off 21
runs from three overs, while Ashok Bhimchandra Dinda took one wicket from three
overs by giving 33 runs. Mumbai Indians won when they scored 161 runs off two
wickets in 18.3 overs.
Sharma
was named ‘Player of The Match’.
Mumbai
Indians now stands at ten points, while Rising Pune Supergiants stands at four
points.
Rising
Pune Supergiants will now face Delhi Daredevils on May 5 in New Delhi, while Mumbai
Indians will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam on May 8.
