New Delhi: On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
made public the educational degrees of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and
demanded that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should tender an apology for
spreading lies.
BJP released copies of BA and MA degrees of Modi in
response to Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) allegations that questioned his degree.
Addressing a press conference, BJP president Amit Shah
said, “It is very unfortunate that we have called a press conference on Prime
Minister’s educational qualification.” “We are putting both PM’s degrees in
public domain,” Shah said.
“For the past few days Arvind Kejriwal has been trying
to turn a blatant lie into a truth, he tried to impress upon the people of the
country and the media that PM’s degrees are fake. Kejriwal should say sorry to
the nation for degenerating public discourse to this level,” he said,
adding, “Kejriwal has done paap (sin) of showing India in the bad
light in front of the world.” “When you (Kejriwal) have no proof that degrees
are fake, how could you mislead the people of the country,” Shah said. “I will
write a letter to Kejriwal so that he is reassured,” he added.
Finance Minister Arun Jiatley at the press conference said: “Making
such public statements, attacking someone without checking the facts is a very
lowly thing to do; this is public discourse at its lowest level and this comes
from a party whose leaders are being prosecuted for furnishing fake degrees.”
AAP hit back saying the documents were forged and had
glaring discrepancies in them.
