In a formidable display
of bravery, a young woman grabbed a man by his collar after he allegedly
molested her and dragged him around 300m to Howrah police station on Monday
afternoon.
The alleged 30-year-old
perpetrator, identified as Rajesh Shaw, has been booked under Indian Penal Code
(IPC) Section 354 (molestation), an officer of the Howrah Government Railway
Police (GRP) station said.
The woman, who is a resident of Liluah in
Howrah, has mentioned in her complaint that the man molested her on a
Howrah-bound Bandel local train. The GRP while narrating the incident,
said:"She boarded a general compartment of the train at Liluah around
2.20pm." "The complainant usually boards a women's coach. But today
she arrived at the station late and boarded a general compartment," he
added.
Although the woman realized that Shaw was
targeting her, she could not move away because of the heavily crowded
compartment. Once the train reached Howrah station, Shaw tried to melt in the
crowd. But by that time, the woman was determined to catch him. She ran after
him and grabbed him by his collar.
"The woman had at first wanted to hand
over the man to cops on the platform. But she changed her mind and decided to
hand him to officers at the police station. She dragged the accused around 300m
to the police station," the GRP concluded.
The woman lodged a complaint, based on
which Shaw was arrested. He will be produced in court on Tuesday.
