Vanessa Hudgens has
bagged a role in NBC's DC Comics comedy pilot Powerless.
The TV series is set at
one of the worst insurance companies in America, with the twist being that it
also takes place in the universe of DC
Comics. It is about the reality of working life for a normal, powerless
person in a world of superheroes and villains.
The two-time Teen
Choice Award winning actor will portray the lead role of ‘Emily Locke’, an
employee at an insurance company, who “loves her job” and flies under the radar. Powerless is
being written by Ben Queen who will also act as the executive producer alongside
Michael Patrick Jann, with the latter set to direct the pilot. It will also
star Christina Kirk.
This is Vanessa’s first
work post her critically acclaimed performance in Fox's Grease Live. Powerless
would mark her' first small-screen regular role.
For DC Comics, Powerless marks
the comic book powerhouse's first half-hour entry. NBC currently is the only network without a superhero series, with DC behind CBS' Supergirl, Fox's Gotham and CW's The Flash, Arrow and Legends of
Tomorrow. ABC is home to
corporate sibling Marvel's Agents
of SHIELD and Agent Carter, and has a spinoff of the
former, Marvel's Most Wanted.
The 27-year-old actor
and singer rose to prominence playing Gabriella
Montez in the High
School Musical series. She has released two studio albums – V and Identified, and has starred in films like Bandslam, Beastly, Thirteen, Machete Kills, Freak Of Nature, among
others.
