Tata Motors is going to
launch India’s first indigenous robot, Tata Brabo, in two months from now.
The robot, which is the
first one to be made in India, is being manufactured by TAL Manufacturing Solutions
Limited, a 100 percent subsidiary of TATA Motors. Brabo has been developed by
an in-house team of six engineers whose average age is 24 years. The team is
being led by Anil Bhingurde, the chief operating officer of Tata Automation
Limited (TAL). The development cost of the project has been set at INR 10crore.
The robot was designed was styled from Tata Elxi. Some of its parts were
manufactured at Tata AutoComp and the project
was financed by Tata Capital.
A presentation on the
company’s robotic venture was made by Bhingurde for the former vice-chairman
and managing director of TATA Motors, Ravi Kant. Speaking about the program at
the presentation, Bhingurde said: “These are made in India, made for India. The
idea is to drive automation in the market by offering affordable and cost-effective solution.”
According to International Federation of Robotics, the
market’s demand for big robots in India is 1,000 annually, and it is expected
to rise to 5,000 in the next year. Bhingurde added that the creation of a new
entry is likely to grow 10 times in five years to 15,000.
With the launch of Tata Brabo, India will join
the ranks of tech savvy countries like Japan and USA, who are pioneers in the field
of robot manufacturing
