West Bengal Grants License To Uber

Mobile cab hailing company Uber was granted license by the West Bengal State Government on Tuesday that will enable the company to create skilled jobs in the state.
Uber said in a statement on Tuesday, “With regard to the latest directives to On Demand Transportation Technologies Aggregators (ODTTA), Uber has received an Offer for License from State Transport Authority of the West Bengal.”
Speaking about the grand success of the company, the General Manager of the eastern region of Uber Ashwin Dias said, "We applaud the West Bengal government for being among one of the first states to issue progressive regulations for technology companies like Uber. We are happy to receive the offer for license and look forward to creating skilled job opportunities in the state and give its citizens affordable, safe and reliable rides.” This also makes West Bengal one of the first Indian states to recognize technology platforms like Uber.
Uber is an American multinational company that develops, markets and operates the Uber mobile app, through which consumers with smartphones can request for a cab which is then routed to Uber drivers, who reach the user to help them reach their destination. It was started in the year 2009 by Canadian entrepreneur Garrett M. Camp and now provides service in 58 countries and 300 cities worldwide.
On the hindsight, the company is incurring loss in China because of a rival taxi hailing company Didi Kuaidi. The CEO of the $62.5 billion industry in an interview said, “We’re profitable in the USA, but we’re losing over $1 billion a year in China.”

The West Bengal’s decision to grant license is going to result in the creation of more employment opportunities in the state.
