Six members of a family were killed, including a minor, in a cylinder
blast that took place inside the house in Chandpur Tehsil, a village located in
Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday afternoon.
The victims have been identified as Yameen, Tufail, Haseen, his wife
Sitara and their two-year-old daughter Humara, all of whom died on the spot, while
another person Fatma succumbed to injuries after she was taken to the hospital.
Two other people, Raees and Chandrapal have received injuries and are undergoing
treatment.
Although an LPG cylinder blast is being suspected as the primary reason
behind the incident, police are also surmising the presence of fire crackers in
the house that may have catalyzed the potency of the accident.
The intensity of the blast was so strong that it not only destructed the
house where the blast occurred, but it also damaged the walls of the
neighboring houses. The incident created panic among the nearby residents. It
is being suspected by the police that they might have been trapped under the
rubble.
The disaster is in line with many accidents that have taken place in the
past in the country due to LPG blasts, leading to a number of deaths. The
situation calls for more awareness of safety measures in handling LPG cylinders
among the users by the government.
