Kolkata Tourist Found Dead At Batasia Loop

A tourist from the city was found dead near a secluded and forested area of Batasia Loop, Darjeeling, around a kilometer away from NH-55. The body of Subhajit Bhattacharya, 31, a resident from Baguiati was found with an injury on the forehead with his mobile phone, money-purse, train ticket, ATM card and voter card scattered around.

The body of Bhattacharya was found by a group of local people who went to the massacred place to cut grass. Amit P. Javalgi, the Police Superintendent of Darjeeling, confirmed the death of the Kolkata resident, saying, "The body of a man from Kolkata has been recovered from an area under Jorebunglow police station. The place is pretty steep and not an area a tourist would visit. We are probing all angles."

The investigating Darjeeling police also added to this by going through his train ticket that they are not sure whether Bhattacharya was travelling alone. Bhattacharya’s family members are in the same mystery, they don’t have any clue that if any of his friends have accompanied him to North Bengal. However, Subhajit’s uncle Pranab Bhattacharya said that, "Subhajit left home on Friday evening after telling his mother that some friends of his were waiting for him in Darjeeling. He did not say when he would return."

The Bhattacharya family confirmed that Subhajit was in a troubled mental state after he quit his job at the local medical store. Subhajit used to live in their Baguiati house with his parents, one elder brother and uncle Pranab and is synonymous to a middle-class family.
