India started campaigning in style for the Happening
Hyderabad Badminton Asia tournament on Wednesday. Both the men’s and women’s teams
smashed the teams from Singapore at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.
The stadium has seen a great win of World’s number
12, P.V. Sindhu over the number 42, Singapore’s Xiaoyu Liang with 21-17, 21-11.
The win of P.C. Thulasi over Chua Hui Zhen was in a spot of bother with the
opponent changing the pace of the game with clever placements at the net. The
doubles pair of G. Jwala and Ashwini Ponappa had an easy win over Shinta Mulia
Sari and Tan Wei Han, with a score of 21-18, 21-11. The combination of
P.V. Sindhu and N. Sikki Reddy also emerged an easy win over Jian Ying Crystal
Wong and Yeo Jia Min 21-8, 21-14.
Reports say that the Indian men had excelled the
match in both the singles and doubles games. Earlier in the day, World No. 9 K.
Srikanth overcame Derek Wong Zi Liang in nearly 50 minutes. The doubles
combination of Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy serving a reminder of their
growing reputation posted a 21-15, 21-14 win in 27 minutes. India, therefore,
made a strong comeback and sailed themselves to the quarterfinals.
