Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) attacked Bollywood
superstar Shah Rukh Khan by throwing stones at his car at a parking lot of a
luxury hotel in Ahmedabad early on Sunday, 14th February. The attack
was reportedly against the shooting of his upcoming film "Raees" in
Gujarat over his earlier remarks on "intolerance".The attackers
shouted slogans like shouting "Jai Sri Ram" and "Shahrukh Khan,
Hai Hai".
Shahrukh Khan shot a couple of scenes at the historic Sarkhej
Roza mosque and dargah campus during the day. Over 200 policemen guarded the
Roza campus. Meanwhile, over a dozen activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad
(VHP) were detained by police as they burnt an effigy of the actor on Ashram
Road.
The right wing threw a lot of flak towards the 50 year old
actor after he made the statement, “religious intolerance and not being secular
is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot.” This resulted in a
group of demonstrators staging a protest, last week, near the Kutch district
collector’s office in Bhuj demanding a ban on the 15 time Filmfare Award
winning actor’s entry to Rann of Kutch.
Shah Rukh Khan is in Ahmedabad to shoot his upcoming film
‘Raees’, which is being directed by Rahul Dholakia. The film also stars
Pakistani actor Mahira Khan. The film is a story of the eponymous bootlegger
challenged and eventually thwarted by a police officer. The film criticizes the
prohibition of alcohol, prostitution, and drugs in Gujarat.
