Congress Approaches EC For Canceling TMC's Recognition In Sting Video

Kolkata: In view of a sting video in which several Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates are purportedly seen as accepting working closely with syndicate mafia,  Congress on Wednesday approached Election Commission (EC), demanding cancellation of the recognition of TMC in it.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) legal department secretary K C Mittal wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi, drawing his attention to a sting operation on a TMC candidate in which he allegedly said that most of the money required to fight assembly elections comes from syndicates. In the complaint sent through e-mail, Mittal referred to the purported conversation in the sting operation and said that the revelation by the media discloses a shocking state of affairs and it will substantially affect the conduct of polls.
Urging the EC to “immediately requisition” of the video footage of the sting, Mittal said, “Keeping in view the gravity of the allegations, it would also be appropriate to cancel recognition of TMC under the Election Symbol (Representation and Allotment) Order, 1968 and take further action as may be considered appropriate.”

Earlier this week on April 5, Congress has approached Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha seeking “action” against BJP MP Vitthal Radadia for allegedly kicking an old man during a musical function in Gujarat. The video of Radadia kicking an old man had gone viral on social media in last week of March. AICC submitted newspaper clippings and a video footage of the Porbandar MP Radadia “repeatedly attacking an old man” during the musical function at Jamkandorna in Rajkot.
