Kolkata: The
campaigning for the third phase of West Bengal Assembly elections, which will
see a part of the metropolis go to the polls ended on Tuesday.
Over 1.37 crore
electorate will decide the fate of 418 candidates, including 34 women, in 62
seats across Murshidabad, Nadia, Burdwan districts and north Kolkata on April 21.
A total of 1,37,42,000 voters, of them 65,79,218 women will exercise their
franchise in 16,461 polling stations from 7 AM to 6 PM on the day, election
office sources said. But, even after campaigning came to an end in some
constituencies of the city where Assembly polls are scheduled on Thursday,
electioneering can go on in adjacent areas, barring a radius of 100 meters,
where elections are slated for later this month.
In Kolkata, there are
seven seats in northern part – Chowringhee, Entally, Beleghata, Jorasanko,
Shyampukur, Maniktala and Kashipur-Belgachhia – where campaigning ended at 6 PM
on Tuesday for the third phase of assembly polls on Thursday.
Trinamool Congress has
been facing the heat with its president and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
showcaused by Election Commission over an alleged violation of the model code
of conduct.
The 62 Constituencies
going into poll in Phase III are Farakka, Samserganj, Suti, Jangipur,
Raghunathganj, Sagardighi, Lalgola, Bhagawangola, Raninagar, Murshidabad,
Nabagram, Khargram, Burwan, Kandi, Bharatpur, Rejinagar, Beldanga, Baharampur,
Hariharpara, Nowda, Domkal, Jalangi, Karimpur, Tehatta, Palashipara, Kaliganj,
Nakashipara, Chapra, Krishnanagar Uttar, Nabadwip, Krishnanagar Dakshin,
Santipur, Ranaghat Uttar Paschim, Krishnaganj, Ranaghat Uttar Purba, Ranaghat
Dakshin, Chakdaha, Kalyani, Haringhata, Chowrangee, Entally, Beleghata,
Jorasanko, Shyampukur, Maniktala, Kashipur-Belgachhia, Khandaghosh,
Bardhamandakshin, Raina, Jamalpur, Monteswar, Kalna, Memari, Bardhaman Uttar,
Bhatar, Purbasthali Dakshin, Purbasthali Uttar, Katwa, Ketugram, Mangalkot,
Ausgram and Galsi.
