The woman, Sanbrita Chakraborty, was a BBA
student, who stayed with her mother in a flat on the third floor of a four-storeyed
building at 120 Regent Colony. Residents of the building discovered her
bloodied body in her bedroom when they went to the flat after being alerted by
a stench, police said. Her mother has claimed she did not realize her daughter
had died, the police said.
Joint commissioner (Crime) Debasish Boral
said: “A cardiovascular attack caused her death. The post-mortem does not
suggest any foul play.” The post-mortem also said that the woman died 48-72
hours before the body was detected, the police said. Explaining the blood, an
officer of Jadavpur police station, where a case of unnatural death has been
registered, said her veins and arteries might have ruptured when she had the
attack. He said the body did not have any external injuries.
The police have found that Chakraborty was
diabetic and her parents had separated a few months ago. “Her mother told us
that she hadn’t been able to pay her daughter’s last semester fees. They have
been living without electricity for three months as the supply has been
disconnected for non-payment of dues,” another officer said.
An officer who had visited the flat said
there were no signs of violence in the house but it was strange that the woman’s
mother did not realize she had died. “It is possible that she is in a state of
shock. She has failed to provide the contact details of her other daughter who
is married and lives somewhere in Behala.”
