Bollywood Starlets Win Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan & Padma Shri

New Delhi: Bollywood starlets dominated the civilian awards this year with Rajinikanth being conferred Padma Vibhushan; Anupam Kher and Udit Narayan being conferred Padma Bhushan and Priyanka Chopra, Ajay Devgan, Madhur Bhandarkar and late Saeed Jaffrey being conferred Padma Shri.


Rajinikanth was conferred with India’s second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan in the capital on Tuesday. Dressed in atraditional attire, he received the Padma Vibhushan from President Pranab Mukherjee. 



Udit Narayan was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honor for his contribution to the world of music. Narayan, who has been a part of the music industry for over three decades, sported a black suit on the occasion. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for finding him worthy of the Padma Bhushan. Anupam Kher thanked the whole country for being conferred Padma Bhushan, saying he would continue to serve the nation with the best of his abilities.


Priyanka Chopra, Ajay Devgan, Madhur Bhandarkar and late Saeed Jaffrey were conferred Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honor. The 33-year-old former Miss World, Chopra, who especially flew down to India from her Baywatch shoot in Los Angeles to receive the honor, said Padma Shri is the best award. Ajay Devgan said: “I feel deeply humbled yet elated to receive such honor from my own country. I’d like to acknowledge that Padma Samman puts an extra responsibility on me and I promise to serve my country for as long as I can.”

The President presented five Padma Vibhushan, eight Padma Bhushan and 43 Padma Shri awards at the function.
