Pune:
In the sixteenth League match of 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal
Challenger Bangalore defeated Rising Pune Supergiants by 13 runs on Friday at
the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Winning
the toss, Rising Pune Supergiants elected to field first. Abraham
Benjamin de Villiers was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s highest scorer with 83
runs. He was followed by Virat Kohli, who scored 80 runs. Narangoda
Liyanaarachchilage Thisara Chirantha Perera was Rising Pune Supergiants’ sole
saving grace in the bowling department as he took all the three wickets himself
off 34 runs from four overs. At the end of 20 overs, Royal Challengers
Bangalore scored 185 runs off three wickets.
In
the second innings, Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane was Rising Pune Supergiants highest
scorer with 60 runs. He was followed by Mahendra Singh Dhoni (41 runs), Perera
(34 runs) and Rajat Bhatia (21 runs). Kane William Richardson was Royal
Challengers Bangalore’s best bowler as he took three wickets off 13 runs from three
overs. Shane Watson took two wickets off 31 runs from four overs. Tabraiz
Shamsi and Harshal Vikram Patel also took one wicket each off 36 runs and 46
runs respectively, both from four over. Royal Challengers Bangalore clinched
victory when Rising Pune Supergiants scored 172 runs off eight wickets at the
end of the 20 overs
Villiers
was named ‘Player Of The Match’.
Royal
Challengers Bangalore now stands at four points. Rising Pune Supergiants has
two points.
Royal
Challengers Bangalore will next face Gujarat Lions on April 24 in Rajkot, while
Rising Pune Supergiants will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on the same day in Pune.
Reigning
champion Mumbai Indians will face Delhi Daredevils in New Delhi today.
