Mumbai: Priyadarshini
Chatterjee from Guwahati, Assam was crowned Miss India World 2016 in Mumbai on
Saturday.
The 53rd edition of the
Femina Miss India contest, held at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, also saw
Sushruthi Krishna from Mumbai being crowned the runner up of the beauty
pageant, while Pankhuri Gidwani from Uttar Pradesh became the second runner up.
Priyadarshini was given
the crown by Miss India World 2015 Aditi Arya, while Sushruthi was crowned by
Miss India Supranational 2015 Afreen Vaz. Miss India Grand International 2015
Vartika Singh crowned Pankhuri.
Priyadarshini, Sushruti
and Pankhuri will now represent India in Miss World 2016, Miss Supranational
2016 and Miss Grand International 2016 respectively.
Priyadarshini also won
Miss Rampwalk award, while Sushruti won Beauty With A Purpose award and Miss
Photogenic award. Pankhuri won the Best Talent award in a three-way tie along
with co-contestants Dnyanda Shringarpure and Gayathri Reddy.
Manish Paul and Karan
Johar hosted the event, while the judging panel consisted of Sanjay Dutt, Yami
Gautam, Arjun Kapoor, Kabir Khan, Amy Jackson, Sania Mirza, Ekta Kapoor, Manish
Malhotra, Shane Peacock and Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna.
The evening saw
performances by Sunidhi Chauhan, Varun Dhawan, Shahid Kapoor, Tiger Shroff,
Jacqueline Fernandez and rapper Badshah. During the ceremony, the contestants
wore creations designed by Anju Modi, Namrata Joshipura and Falguni & Shane
Peacock.
Twenty-one finalists
were selected who competed at the finals of Femina Miss India 2016 for the
titles of Miss India World 2016, Miss India Supranational 2016 and Miss India
Grand International 2016.
