JNU Row to Follow another Face-Off: Kanhaiya & Friends Burn Report, To Go On Hunger Strike

Jawaharlal Nehru University students Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya with student supporters on Tuesday have brunt the copy of the university panel report that ordered penalties and fines against them. Kanhaiya Kumar, the student leader of JNU earlier has threatened to go through such actions.
Also, the students will start a relay hunger strike against ‘disciplinary action from expulsion to fines’ of the university, said reports. Kumar, Khalid and Bhattacharya were accused of anti-nationalist sloganeering in the university campus on February 9 this year and also were in jail custody for 20 days.


The report was burnt by the JNU students on Tuesday after Kanhaiya attended a programme regarding educational institute campus unrest and political storm. The university panel report have suspended Kumar and Khalid for a semester showing ‘indiscipline’ as the reason and also fined with Rs. 20,000 and 10,000 respectively.
“We will not abide by the committee that was rejected by us ever since its formation. We will take out a rally and start an indefinite hunger strike tomorrow. The arbitrary punishment given to students should be rolled back,” Kanhaiya said addressing the crowd of supporters.
JNU has rusticated Bhattacharya, Khalid and Mujeeb Gattoo, fined 14 more students and barred two former students’ to enter in the campus who was found associated with the agitation. Report is the students have till May 15 to follow the university orders.


According to reports, Kanhaiya also declared that he intends to write a book on his journey from his home, Bihar, to be the student union leader at JNU, sedition charges and the following trivia. He informed that the book will come out in Hindi and English and he will complete writing it before the next semester.
