Wellington: A strong earthquake of 7.0-magnitude
stroke the Pacific Island
nation of Vanuatu early on Friday, but caused no damage. Reports are this
is the fourth quake to rattle Vanutu this month, with no series problems
post-quake.
According to the U.S. Geological
Survey reports, there was no immediate report of death or injuries. The
reports denied any threat of tsunami too after the quake hit the Malekula Island.
Supported by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre, any threat of destructive
pacific wide tsunami has been canceled.
With 35 kms deep and an epicenter of 200 kms
north-east of the Vanutu capital Port Vila, the strong quake emerged from the Pacific
Ring of Fire. Reports are, as many as 245,000 people across the island may
have felt the tremors. Almost 18,000 people have ‘perceived strong shaking.’
