Bangalore:
Following the Punjab University (PU) question paper leak, Bangalore University
(Bu) will get its undergraduate students to videotape the opening of question
paper bundles in the examination hall and WhatsApp the same to the authorities.
The
move aims to prevent possible leaks during the undergraduate exams slated to be
held from May 10 at 182 centres. Most leaks happen by illegally opening the
question paper bundles.
The
bundles will be opened in every examination hall by the invigilator in the
presence of a squad, chief superintendent, a girl and boy student. The students
will check whether the bundles are intact, videotape the unbundling on their
cellphones and WhatsApp it to the authorities. After videotaping, the mobile
phones will be in the custody of the authorities till the exam gets over.
There’s a ban on cellphones inside exam halls.
BU officials said 3.5
lakh students, including 2.5 lakh freshers, are appearing for the exams. “Last
month, PU question papers were leaked. We don’t want such things to happen in
BU; we hope videographing will help” said KN Ninge Gowda, registrar
(evaluation).
Incidentally, the leaked PU question
papers were circulated using WhatsApp, prompting the authorities to propose
banning of the instant messaging service on examination days. But the proposal
fell through. Even examination authorities are not allowed to carry cellphones
to BU exam centres and violators will be slapped with notices.
Meanwhile,
Patna University banned shoes in examination centres, asking undergraduate
students to come in slippers instead, in a bid to check hiding of papers and
chits.
