Mumbai: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on
Thursday declared that it had written a letter to the British High Commission
‘seeking Mallya’s return under India’s anti-money laundering law.’ Reports are
that the Indian government had asked Britain to ‘deport’ Vijay Mallya who is to
repay as many as $1.4 million to the banks owed by his now defunct company
Kingfisher Airlines.
In a later development of the notice, Mallya declared
that ‘he is in forced exile’ and happy to be in UK. The United Breweries who
flew to UK last month from Delhi also added that the Indian banks and
government ‘are not getting any money by taking his passport or arresting him.’
Following charges against the former formula one
boss, Mallya’s diplomatic passport was revoked last week. A parliament MP and
liquor baron, Mallya is now subjected to non-bailable warrant issued by a
special judge in Mumbai. Also, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has charged
Mallya’s liquor company United Breweries for using Rs. 4.3 billion of bank
loans to buy property at abroad.
