Rajkot: In the sixth
League stage match of 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Lions defeated
Rising Pune Supergiants by seven wickets at the Saurashtra Cricket Asoociation
stadium in Rajkot.
Winning the toss,
Rising Pune Supergiants elected to bat first. Francois du Plessis was Rising
Pune Supergiants’ highest scorer with 69 runs. He was followed by Kevin Peter Pietersen (37
runs), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (22 runs) and Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane (21 runs).
Dhoni remained not out till the end. Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets for
Gujarat Lions after giving off 18 runs from four overs. Pravin Tambe also took
two wickets off 33 runs from four overs, while Dwayne Bravo took one wicket off
43 runs from four overs.
In the second innings,
Aaron Finch scored the highest runs for Gujarat Lions with a perfect half-century
of 50 runs. He was followed by Brendon McCullum who scored 49 runs, Suresh
Raina with 24 runs and Dwayne Bravo with 22 runs. Bravo remained not out till
the end of the innings. Murugan Ashwin was Rising Pune Supergiants’ best bowler
of the night. He took two wickets off 31 runs from four overs. Ishant Sharma
took one wicket off 39 runs from four overs.
Finch was named ‘Player
Of The Match’.
Gujarat Lions is now at
the top of the leader-board with four points. They will next face reigning
champion Mumbai Indians on April 16, whereas Rising Pune Supergiants will take
on Kings XI Punjab on April 17.
Delhi Daredevils will
face Kings XI Punjab today in New Delhi.
