Chandigarh: In the
third league stage match of 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Lions defeated
Kings XI Punjab by five wickets at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra
Stadium in Chandigarh on Monday.
Winning the toss,
Gujarat Lions elected to field first. In the first innings, Murali Vijay was
Kings XI Punjab’s highest scorer with 42 runs. He was followed by Manan Vohra (38
runs), Marcus Stoinis (33 runs), Wriddhiman Saha (20 runs) and David
Andrew Miller (15 runs). Rest of the players couldn’t score in double-digits.
Dwayne John Bravo took four wickets for Gujarat Lions, whereas Ravindra Jadeja
took two wickets for Gujarat Lions. Kings XI Punjab scored a total of 161 runs
off six wickets at the end of the innings.
In the second innings, Aaron
Finch was Gujarat Lions’s highest scorer with 74 runs. He was followed by Dinesh
Karthik (41 runs) and Suresh Raina (20 runs). Karthik remained not out. Sandeep
Sharma was Kings XI Punjab’s best bowler of the night after he took a wicket by
giving 21 runs in three overs. Gujarat Lions snatched victory in 17.4 overs
after scoring 162 runs off five wickets.
Finch was adjudged
‘Player Of The Match’.
Gujarat Lions will next
face Rising Pune Supergiants on April 14, while Kings XI Punjab will take on Delhi
Daredevils on April 15. Gujarat Lions now stands at two points along with
Rising Pune Supergiants and Kolkata Knight Riders at the leader-board.
Royal Challengers
Bangalore will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad today in Bangalore.
