Kolkata Flyover Collapse: Another IVRCL Official Under Police Scanner

Kolkata: After falling sick and being hospitalized on March 31, Ranajit Bhattacharjee, Iragavarapu Venkata Reddy Construction Limited’s (IVRCL) Assistant Vice-President of Project Monitoring Cell (PMC) and administration of the Eastern Region, was put under scanner of the Kolkata Police investigating the collapse of Vivekananda flyover collapse.


Eight officers of IVRCL have already been arrested under IPC sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) and others. Investigators have arrested Project Manager Tanmoy Sil and conducted a thorough search of IVRCL's Beadon Street office on April 4 and have seized several documents.
The four people arrested on Monday are the officers of the Hyderabad- based construction company in-charge of building the Vivekanda Road flyover. The names were revealed as Gopal Krishna Murti, Director Operations, SK Ratnam, Deputy General Manager Projects and engineers Shyamal Manna and Bidyut Manna.
During the probe into the role of arrested senior engineers of IVRCL, Shyamal Manna and Bidyut Manna, it was learnt that they were in-charge of construction of the portion of the flyover, which collapsed.
Slapping charges including that of murder against the company, the police had earlier arrested Tanmoy Sil of AGM Projects, IVRCL, from Burdwan when he was trying to flee and three other officials— Mallika Arjun, senior AGM, Pradip Kumar Saha, Manager Structural VRF and Debojyoti Majumdar, Assistant Manager Administration.
A portion of a Vivekananda flyover near Ganesh Talkies in Girish Park collapsed on the afternoon of March 31 leaving 27 dead and over 150 people injured.
