Dehradun: As many as 14 bodies were recovered so far who
were dead due to the massive cloudburst and landslides at Singhali in
Uttarakhand on Friday. Reports are that the state police force has assumed death
of at least 39 people in the calamity due to heavy rains in Pithoragarh and
Chamoli districts of the state.
“We have recovered five bodies from Singhali area while
three bodies have been recovered from Thal village. The search for others is on
by rescue parties consisting of army and paramilitary personnel,” District
Magistrate of Pithoragarh has asserted.
Also, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued
a yellow code warning on Friday and an orange code warning for Saturday, which
indicates an alert in rainfall, increased water level and related calamities
indicating an alert.
The weather forecast also noted that Uttarakhand will
receive heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places.
River Alakananda has rose over the danger level while
alerts has been issued for Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar, Champawat, Almora,
Dehdraun, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Haridwar and Tehri districts for the next 72
hours. The state is receiving spate of heavy rains continuously.
Reports are that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat have expressed their grief over the
death of people fur to cloud bursts. CM Rawat also noted that NDRF team has
been posted to the areas and helicopters will be provided to carry the injured
at safer places.
Apart from NDRF, 108 personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border
Police (ITBP) were triggered to continue rescue operations in Uttarakhand.
