Narasingh Yadav Doping: Wrestler Backed By WFI, Fellow Player and Maharashtra CM

New Delhi: After the Olympic bound Indian wrestler Narasingh Yadav tested positive in dope test, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) said that the elimination period of the player will be lessened if ‘he is able to prove that he was sabotaged by a rival.’ The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), however, ‘backed’ the wrestler and hinted that Yadav is a victim of conspiracy.

WFI president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on Monday has asserted: “We are fully behind Narsingh, we believe in his innocence and we will go to any extent to support him in his fight for justice and try and get him on the plane to Rio.”
According to Singh, a person was caught on June 5 who was trying to add something in the food cooked for the players in the Sonepat camp. Singh added that the incident was ‘hushed’ then and that ‘Narsingh was the target from the beginning.’ He is the first Indian wrestler to secure his Olympic berth in the 75-kg category. Preceding the Olympic selection, the 26-year-old athlete also had a legal battle with double-Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar.

Following the failed dope test, Narsingh filed a complaint against a lady SAI (Sports Authority of India) official claiming conspiracy against him. Singh failed the dope test twice when experts found trace of banned steroid metadienone in it.
Yogeshwar Dutt, former Olympic medal winning wrestler from India, has supported Yadav and said that the he is being victimized and that the case should be investigated thoroughly. Dutt wrote in his Twitter handle that, “This matter should be investigated. I am sure that Narsingh cannot do something like this.”
On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also joined the crowed to support Narasingh Yadav. He had written a letter to the Union Sports Minister, seeking justice for the wrestler.
