Rivers In Uttarakhand Breach Danger Mark As Rains Continue

Dehradun: On Monday, Heavy rains continued to pound Uttarakhand, causing many rivers to breach their danger mark at several places.

Officials said that Saryu, Sharda, Gori and Bhagirathi rivers were are flowing above the danger mark while Alaknanda and Mandakini were in spate and could breach the danger mark any time.
Twelve people have died in landslips and rain-related road accidents. While three persons died in road accidents in Nainital district on Saturday evening, the death toll reached 12 within two days of heavy rains across the State after three persons died in Pauri district’s Srinagar as a vehicle fell into a gorge.
Four persons died in Tehri district’s Kumarkhera area after a jeep was trapped in a landslide, and two persons died when a tree fell on a building in Uttarkashi district’s Barkot area.
According to the disaster management cell, over 900 pilgrims on the Chaar Dham Yatra route were stranded at different points after incessant rains. At many places, landslides have blocked vehicular movement on roads. Rail traffic was also hit as boulders had come tumbling on the Haridwar-Dehradun route tunnel. More than a dozen houses were reported to have collapsed in the hill areas of the Kumaon division but no loss of life was reported.
