45 Positive Drug Tests from 2008 and 2012 Olympics Announced by IOC

New Delhi: In a re-test of samples, collected from athletes who took part in 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, 45 had failed, increasing the number to 98 so far.

According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who had announced the number of positive results in a press conference on Friday, has said that 23 of the 30 positive results are of athletes who won medalists. The remaining 15 athletes from London were from nine countries and took part in two sports.
Reports are that due to re-test using newer methods, IOC stores samples for a decade. President of the IOC, announcing the result, has said that, “The new re-analysis once again shows the commitment of the IOC in the fight against doping.”

He also added that the re-analysis of samples from earlier games just before the Rio Olympics starting next month is expected to keep the ‘cheats from competing in the games.’
IOC’s announcement of the result follows the decision by the court of arbitration for sport earlier this week, when the whole team of Russia lost their changes to represent their nation in the quadrennial extravaganza.
